Harry Deal


Leader, Vocals, Trumpet

     Harry formed the group ito play for a statewide Beta Club convention in Asheville in 1959 (2000 people). 1960 was eventful: we auditioned and got the job at the Myrtle Beach Pavilion, joined the marching band at Duke University (played in the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, played lots of frat parties at Duke, Wake, UNC, and State and signid our first recording contract in New York City (1962), set attendance record at Myrtle Beach Pavilion (held for 10 years). Played with the beach boys, Dave Clark Five, 4 Seasons, Kenny Chesney, James Brown, Rolling Stones, and many more. Won lifetime achievment from Cammy (Beach Music Assoc.) in 2007.

Bob Bunch


Drums and Vocals

Bob has been an excellent drummer with Harry Deal and the Galaxies during three different periods of time starting in the 1970's. He had developed a reputation as one of the hardest working drummers in the business. Bob came to us from Statesville where he played in the high school band and his church group and is well respected by all of the group. He lives in Alexander County with his wife Donna, 2 daughters and one granddaughter.

Leslie Barger


Vocals and Keyboards

Comes to the band from Caldwell County (Granite Falls) and is a Spanish Teacher near Lenoir. She's worked in church music for 13 years in Lenoir and Hickory and danced , sung, and played keyboards in several play productions including "Damn Yankees". Leslie has started her own company producing, singing, writing instructional CD's for learning Spanish.

Scott West


Bass Guitar and Vocals

Born in New York City. Started in music at age 16 playing with his parents. Harry and Jeanie West's bluegrass and gospel group. After extensive work in the food business Scott started working with his parents again in their music store at 116 East Broad St. in Statesville. Currently playing with Chiggerhill Ramblers and Harry Deal and the Galaxies.

Garry Tilley


Keyboards and Vocals

Garry is a lifelong musician performing on stage at age 4 with his parents band. Garry has his own bluegrass group (Tom Dollee Band) and has a degree in music, studying at Wilkes Community Collegeand the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville twice and toured with Bad Company, Grand Funk Railroad, and Sammy Hagar and other coliseum performers.

Jerry Smith


Guitar and Vocals

Jerry was a founding member of the popular group "Franklin Hammer Band" of Statesville and played with them from 1973 until 2002. After a break of about 10 years Jerry decidedthat the love of Carolinas Beach Music and the chance to perform with old friends would bring him back to the live stage and Harry Deal and the Galaxies. We are very happy to have Jerry in our group.
